Private pumping stations

We're on the hunt for all the private pumping stations that have been installed by private companies and developers over the years.

You might be one of those (relatively few) people who has a private pumping station on your land or near your home. We need your help to find them, get them in our care so we can keep them in good working order.

From 1 October 2016 we'll be taking responsibility for private pumping stations (though we may take ownership of some stations before this date) that:

  • serve a single property, and are outside the property boundary or
  • serves two or more properties

We'll be responsible for all associated costs, maintenance, repairs and any necessary upgrade work.

There are around 2,000, so we’ve got a lot of work to do. We're on the hunt now all over the North West to locate, survey and transfer as many private pumping stations as we can before 1 October 2016.

What is a private pumping station?

  • Private pumping stations help to remove wastewater from properties lower than a main sewer
  • Clues there might be one on your property include manhole covers and metal cabinets or cupboards containing electrical equipment.

They come in all shapes and sizes.......
